If 9 $ 4 = 15 $ k, then k=

a $ b is an undefined function, so it could mean a/b, b/a, a-b/a...etc why does the OA consider it as a/b?

THE ANSWER SHOULD BE 20/3
WHAT HAS BEEN ASKED IN THE QUESTION IS:
THERE IS A RELATION SHIP BETWEEN 9 AND 4 AND THE SAME RELATIONSHIP EXISTS BETWEEN 15 AND SOME OTHER NUMBER. THE ONLY POSSIBLE RELATIONSHIP 9 AND 4 IS NUMBER 9 IS 20/3 TIMES 4.
HENCE, 20/3!

Ok this problem reminds me of Groundhog Day...see the madness

If the function is a/b, then

9/4 = 15/k

k = 20/3


9/4 = 45/20

2.25 = 2.25

what if it was a-b/b

then 9-4/4 = 15-k/k

5/4 = 15-k/k

5k = 60 - 4k

k = 60/9 = 20/3

a-b/a

9-4/9= 15-k/15

5/9 = 15-k/15

75 = 135 - 9k

k= 20/3

it's a locked ratio

I am not talking about the function, but about the relationship between the numbers.
The method doesn't matter as far as you get the answer right!
Look I think, that the question is about an operation and not the function you're talking about.
