During a sale the price of the raisins per pound was reduced by 40 percent. SImon decides to increase the weight of raisins so that he spends the same amount on raisins which he would have spent it before the sale. By approximately what percent he need to increase the weight of raisins that he buys.
any easy method to solve these kind of problems??

cost per pound of raisin * Weight of raisins = Total cost

cost per pound of raisin is decreased by 40 percent. means cost is 60 percent.

0.6 * cost per pound of raisin * Weight of raisins * new weight fraction = Total cost
Hence 0.6 * new weight fraction =1
new weight fraction = 10/6 = 5/3

Hence Weight should be increased by 5/3 -1 = 2/3 = 66.66 percent.

We can plug in our own values:

Initial price = $10/pound
Buys 3 pounds = 3*10 = $30
Price reduced 40% = $6/pound
Same cost means 30/6 = 5 pounds must be purchased
% increase = Difference/Original * 100 = (5-3)/3 * 100 = 2/3 * 100 = 66.67%.

We can plug in our own values:

Initial price = $10/pound
Buys 3 pounds = 3*10 = $30
Price reduced 40% = $6/pound
