Scoring

hey Guys!
Im reallly confused about the whole scoring of the gmat...

On avergae I get 10 wrong in both the quantitative and 10 wrong in the verbal section
making it 20 on avergae for the total test..

so my raw score is 58...

firstly I wanna know is there negative marking of 1/4th?

secondly the whole scoring thing is really confusing... some sites say a 58 corresponds to a 650 whilst others say its a 550!

the range is like a 100 points!

please tell me what my average score will be if i get 10 and 10 wrong respectively!

Hello Akshay,

I think you must first understand how the test works. To start with, GMAT is a Computer Adaptive Test(CAT). So every question you get has a different difficulty level and consequently different score attached to it. Take for instance,

On a scale of 10(relative value),lets say you face the first question worth 5 points.
So if you answer this correctly, you move up the ladder, face a tougher question say 6 points, and if you answered the first one incorrectly, you fall back the ladder and get a question of lower value attached. So throughout the exam the computer keeps on adjusting itself to your level and that's how it calculates your score.

I feel that you are very new to this whole concept. I would suggest you to start working on your errors and you can concentrate on your scores at the latter stages of your preparation.
