Mac's and GMAT prep CD ROM's

by smclean23 » Sun Jun 29, 2008 4:48 am
I've been thru most of the posts and have a good idea of what type of books to get but it seems the CD ROM's in these books are not compatible with MAC's.

Am I wrong? Will my MAC people please let me know if this is true or not?

you are correct, at least as of a few months ago: the gmatprep software, whether downloaded from the internet or ripped from the cd, is not compatible with macs.

i've always found it ironic that gmac proclaims its commitment to diversity and offers testing accommodations for all kinds of rare situations, yet doesn't put out gmatprep software on a platform used by at least one-quarter of everyone.

for now, just make friends with someone who has a pc. :/

Wow, really?! I had no idea that GMATPrep didn't work on Mac. That's nuts. I wouldn't be surprised if somebody's created a workaround. Trying Googling "GMATPrep" and "Mac" and see if you find anything.

I haven't heard of any of the major test prep companies' tests not working on a Mac, so you should still have plenty of options. The PR tests are actually online so it doesn't matter what OS you're using; you just need the DVD to get a link to them, but as far as I can tell the DVD ought to work on a Mac.

oh yeah, for sure, all the major test-prep companies' software and practice tests are compatible with both mac and pc platforms. our manhattangmat practice tests are entirely web-based, so you could even run them on linux or unix if you want.

my best hypothesis has to do with the fact that the gmatprep software is free, eliminating the pecuniary incentive for gmac to develop a mac version. of particular note is the fact that other gmac software, such as the new gmat focus math software, is web-based and therefore compatible with mac and pc operating systems.

i know the cd rom than came with the princeton review:cracking the gmat works with my macbook, even thought it doesn't say it is mac compatible. (but i would not recommend buying that book solely because of its offered cd, i found it to be exactly what the book had already taught)

Actually, you have to buy the version with the DVD in order to get access to the tests.
