here 'the list of ánimals that'...that modifies the list or animals....í think that modifies list hence made a mistake...pl explain

First rule out the choices which have 'exhibits'. It should be 'animals that exhibit'. Animals will not take singular here. rules out A and B.

E is wordy and uses 'preference as to'.

'Preference for' in D is better than 'preference in' 'C'.

preference for is an idiom so only D is correct

Alternately
animals exhibits
so Ab out


expanded and includes is wrong
so E out

preference for is correct
so Ans D

"The list of animals" is singular..

ex: The list of animals is too long.

But when "that" is used ( I have mentioned this on other threads to), "that "is a noun modifier.. and so you need to see the noun immediately preceding that.. in this case it is "animals".. and that is why exhibit is used... and not exhibits..
