According to Italy's top anti-Mafia prosecutor, the ailing mobster came to take refuge in Corleone, a town famous because of the "The Godfather" and near to those he most trusted.

OA is A

I feel that A has ambiguity because the town was famous because A. godfather, and B, it was near to those he most trusted.

I chose E, which is gramatically correct, but more wordy.

Could an expert please help ? Does A not have ambiguity in the meaning?

A is the right answer as it has all the modifiers near to their subjects ( As highlighted by GmatKiss)

IMO: A
but does A not have ambiguity in the meaning? E although passive, fixes the ambiguity.

A could mean that the town was famous because it was near to those he most trusted, and that's not logical.

yeah A does have an ambiguity as to he refers to what,,, the godfather or the mobster...
but E although passive,,removes the ambiguty
by saying mobster came to take refuge in that town..

can somebdy pls throw some light on this..

As everyone is down to A and E, let me get on with those 2

A : here 'he' refers to the ailing mobster.
First part of A shows what the prosecutor said, followed by the subject - the ailing mobster.
Then it has what he did. The latter part of the sentence is a modifier, which modifies Corleone. It has 2 modifiers
1. Corleone is famous because of the 'The Godfather'
2. Corleone is near to those 'he' most trusted.

Here there is a list of 2 items - famous and near. Both are parallel. Hence, A is crisp and correct in all terms.

E. Here the first part of the sentence is passive and too wordy.

Hence, IMO A

The opening modifier should modify "the ailing mobster". "a town famous because of the "The Godfather" and near to those he most trusted" - modifies Corleone

Down to A and C

C has modifier errors

Hence A !

whats the source of this question? None of the options seems correct. I mean, even with A.....how can a town be near to somebody.??
