Well, this is my first post after much reading and I am looking for some advice: By way of background, I was hoping to get into a School this year, however the GMAT stood in the way. I work in Marketing and Sales but have a legal background and some IT development, so Maths has never been my strong point.
I enrolled on an intensive Kaplan classroom course, taking two weeks off work with the bizarre notion that I would sit my exam after the course ended. How naive.
Not long after the course ended, I realised that I was massively underprepared for the exam and pushed it back a month later. I studied for the month solidly (everyday after work and every weekend). I relied entirely on Kaplan books and online resources. MY diagnostic was 400, and then I was hitting 540 a week before the test. I had not taken the GMATprep tests even though I should have (I would put it down to panic, looking back at it now). I was planning to postpone the test again but i then read that Kaplan CATs generally are marked up to 100 points lower than the actual result. I knew I would have to take the test again, but I figured that I would see how the day went.
Well, I came out with a shocking 380. My ego and confidence is bruised, to say the least, however after taking a month off and purchasing MGMAT and Official Math and Verbal Guides, along with the Power Score CR Bible, I now feel ready to tackle studying again. By the way, Maths was the weakest link.
However, I have spoken to Kaplan and I qualify for the Higher Score Guarantee meaning that I can take the course again. I did not know this until I had purchased all the MGMAT and other books.
Basically, I am finding it difficult to start again and am a little confused as to whether I should self-study or take the Kaplan course again or study from the MGMAT books alongside retaking the Kaplan course at the weekends (which would be over a month).
I have put aside two months to study again: one month math and one month verbal, with practice tests throw in and OG review GMATprep tests. I am lacking in structure really and wonder if anyone has any helpful tips or pointers?
Self study? Kaplan again? or try to do both?
Thanks in advance[/b]
