Is the answer "A" ? I also carry same query about native to and native of! Experts can help us here.

I choose A because of the idiom "In an attempt to" - Not sure if i can remember this right.
"Native of" is used for a individual while "Native to" is used for a large group

"Native of" is used for a individual while "Native to" is used for a large group

Some examples:
Bob is a native of Houston, Texas.
Corn is native to North America.
