Is 0 < y < 1 ?

1 - 0 < sqrt(y) < 1
2 - y^2 = 1/4

I though that 2 by itself could answer the problem

It's A because in the 2) you can have
(1/2)^2=1/4 or (-1/2)^2=1/4 and you cannot answer the question only with 2)
