The most important reason I can think of is that some posts/topics (which might not get marked sticky by the mods) contain very good explanation of some questions or obscure facts which are frequently gotten wrong by many people.
(Think of the people who google for a particular problem and get directed to the relevant post in this awesome forum, thereby increasing the topic's view count. Similar situation occurs when people bookmark their favorite posts)

Another scenario I can think of is when a post (of once hot topics which fade away with time) contains inputs from many people where they try to build a compilation of some concepts/formulae.

Eric I hope you get the idea behind my request of this feature.

(I prefer the approach of visiting the 'more popular topics' while trying to get the most out of a forum)
