Hi there,

Could you give me your ELEGANT, QUICK, and EFFICIENT method to resolve (with these concepts and with finding the solution).

According to the directions on a can of frozen orange juice concentrate, 1 can of concentrate is to bemixed with 3 cans of water to make orange juice. How many 12-ounce cans of the concentrate are required to prepare 200 6-ounce servings of orange juice?

a)25
b)34
c)50
d)67
e)100

One serving of orange juice is 6 ounces. In order to find out how many ounces of concentrate and orange juice make up the serving, we must do the following:

x+3x=6

4x=6

x=3/2

So 3/2 ounces of concentrate make up one serving orange juice. We have a total of 200 servings, so we need 200*3/2 or 300 ounces of concentrate. Since concentrate is sold in 12 oz cans, we're required to have 300/12 or 25 cans of concentrate.

Another approach could be you need 200 cans of 6oz juice meaning 1200 oz, which is same as 100 cans. (1 can = 12 oz).

Now in 4 cans of juice you have 1:3 ratio of concentrate to water. Therefore in 100 cans you will have 25:75 ratio. Hence A.
