What is the OA ?
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.

IMO C

In A, the "it" in "making it more than" is referring to the book rather than the copies in print. Same issue with D and E. In B, the usage of "which" lacks clarity as we don't know what it is referring to.

Read it this way -- forget the yellow part for the moment and read the sentence.

By the year 2000, A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens' gripping book portraying the suffering of the proletariat under the brutal subjugation of the French aristocracy, had around 200 million copies in print, more than that of almost any other English book ever written

The key is to understand the meaning of the sentence. -- The part I've highlighted in Yellow is nothing but just a modifier of the book 'A Tale of Two Cities'. That Yellow part is an additional information about the book.

Secondly, the comparison is also accurate. We need 'More than' here to compare similar [books] things.

OPTION C is the correct answer.

Please let me know if you need any explanation for incorrect choices such as OPTION A.

If OA is A, IMO B
If OA is B, IMO C
If OA is C, IMO D

I killed B because of "which."

Killed A and D because of "making."

E is a run on sentence.
NO EXCUSES

I agree. Any option which doesn't seperate the modifier with commas can be eliminated. So, A, B & E out. Between C & D, C has the correct comparison.
