This is a point of idiom. Both "try to do" and "try doing" are used in spoken English. Even worse, sometimes the monstrosity "try and do" appears in spoken English.
The GMAT SC holds high standards. On the GMAT, the idiom "try + [infinitive]" will always be correct, and "try + [participle]" will always be incorrect. Thus:
Correct:
try to do
try to organize
Incorrect
try doing
try organizing
