In an effort to reduce their inventories, Italian vintners have cut prices;their wines have been priced to sell, and they are

(A) have been priced to sell, and they are
(B) are priced to sell, and they have
(C) are priced to sell, and they do
(D) are being priced to sell, and have
(E) had been priced to sell, and they have

in my point of view, the meaning of the sentence is " italian vintners wants to reduce their inventories and for this they have cut prices of wines. the wines then are priced to sell and vintners are able to reduce inventories. the Verb "DO" represents the verb "reduce" in my point of view. is my reasoning correct??? please correct me if i am wrong. if the verb "DO" represents the verb "Sell". isnt it non-sensical that "the wines sell"

please correct me

Eg: The garments were offered a discount and they did sell (because of the discount)- Understood!

This is called "ellipsis"

Here is another one,

Beaded wedding gowns are so expensive because the seamstress still pursues her art as they have for centuries, by hand-stringing each bead and then knotting each thread individually to achieve a secure attachment for each bead.

(A) the seamstress still pursues her art as they have
(B) the seamstress still pursues her art as she has
(C) seamstresses still pursue their art as they have
(D) seamstresses still pursue their art as was done
(E) the seamstress still pursues her art as has been done

To sell can be used to refer to the SELLER:
The stores sells many books.

To sell can also be used to refer to the ITEM BEING SOLD:
The books in the store sell well.
The conveyed meaning here is than many people purchase the books.

IMO: C
I guess the sentence should use plural 'seamstresses' and not singular 'seamstress' as the sentence is talking in general about all the seamstresses and not about any particular seamstress
