Difference between 'for mantaining' & 'in order to manta

The highly-advanced robot is proficient in both Japanese and
English - and we expect that the robot's maker will produce the new
model only in limited quantities in order to maintain the product's
cachet.

why is 'for mantaining' incorrect here?
how can we differentiate where i either can be used?
