Test1-42. (26647-!-item-!-188;#058&002738)

As a result of a supernova explosion, every human being on Earth was bombarded on February 23, 1987, by about 100 billion neutrinos; fortunately, neutrinos are harmless elementary particles that are produced in nuclear reactions and that interact very weakly with matter.

(A) neutrinos are harmless elementary particles that are produced in nuclear reactions and that
(B) neutrinos, which are harmless, are elementary particles produced in nuclear reactions and which
(C) neutrinos are harmless elementary particles produced in nuclear reactions and which
(D) these harmless elementary particles are produced in nuclear reactions, and neutrinos
(E) these elementary particles, harmless products of nuclear reactions, are neutrinos that

Ans:
(A)
Why not
(E)
?

B - no comma before last which...SO OUT
C - no comma before last which...SO OUT
E - fortunately these particles are ...neutrinos..we were already talking about neutrinos and then this kinda modification is awkward...This wud be better if we were talking about neutrinos for the 1st time...

Was confused b/w A & D....but then I felt A was better...cudnt find a reason to strongly reject D...can someone throw some light here???
Trying hard!!!

In option D it seems as if the nuclear reactor is used only to produce neutrinos and that neutrinos is just not a by-product. whereas the main sentence implies that neutrinos is a by-product of the nuclear reaction and is harmless.
Hope i am right.

A is right.
B changes the important information "neutrinos are harmless" into an unimportant which clause with comma
C neutrinos and which not parallel
D - does not imply whether neutrions are harmless particles
E-changes meaning by implying that elementary particles are neutrinos by showing important "harmless" clause in comma
