'were' in C, D and E distort the meaning. These options convey that the paintings were attributed to Rembrandt and now they are not attributed to Rembrandt anymore.

Between A and B, we don't attribute something to be someone's(possessive form) rather we attribute something to someone (noun).

Hence, IMO A is the answer.
