Inequality Question where I think the answer is wrong

If x and y are positive, is x^3 > y?

(1) Square Root x > y
(2) x>y

A. Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient.
B. Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient.
C. BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient.
D. EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.
E. Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient.

The answer is E. IS it because in both case x could be for example 0.5 and y 0.4. When you cube 0.5 you get a number smaller than y. I think I understand the question now.

Well actually this X^3 > Y fails for most of the values where X > 0 but X < 1 and Y is somewhat nearby X range.
