A certain expressway has exits J, K, L, and M, in that order. What is the road distance from exit K to exit L?

(1) The road distance from exit J to exit L is 21 kilometers.

(2) The road distance from exit K to exit M is 26 kilometers.

Did first 30 problems, and this is the only one that I got wrong.

[1] Not sufficient, no info on total or J ~ K, or L ~ M.

[2] Not sufficient either, the same reasoning as in the [1].

1 & 2 taken together are not sufficient. Answer must be [E]

I think the answer is E.
Let us analyze the arguments:
(I) Length of segment JKL is 21KM. This does not tell us about the distance between K and L. Neither this tells us anything about the length of section JK. So this is INSUFF.

(II) Length of segment KLM is 26KM. This does not tell us about the distance between K and L. Also, this does not tell us anything about the length of section LM. So this is also INSUFF.

Now if we combine both arguments and assume P to be the total distance between J and M and x,y,z to be the lengths of sections JK, KL and LM respectively then:

P = x + y + z
p = (21-y) + y + (26-y)
p= 47 - y
in this equation, we have two unknown variable, so the value of y can not be calculated from this equation. Hence, BOTH areguments are INSUFF to solve the problem. Hence, the answer is E
