1) x(y+5) is even means x is even or y is odd or both..
so insuff

2) 6y^2+ 41y + 25 is even.let's consider it term by term.
6y^2 - always even
25 - always odd
so for the whole expression to be even, 41y should be odd as odd + odd is even. that makes y odd but nothing about x. insuff

taking y from 2, we can see that y is odd in 1...
so the expression is x*(odd+odd) i:e x*even = even.
so, whether x= even or odd, doesnt make a difference to the stmt.

Hence D

Concept of O + O = Even; O + E = O; O * O = O; O * E = E should help solve this problem.

Stmt 2 states that y is Odd. No info of X - insufficient

Stmt 1 X can be odd or even. This depends on y

1 & 2 - y is odd, hence x could be even & odd. Hence E

if y is odd then x has to be even..right?
pls explain..as i get trap in this X Y terms....
