the table shown above shows the discount structure for advanced purchase of tickets at a particular airline. a passenger bought a ticket at this airline for $1050. the ticket agent informed her that, had she purchased the ticket one day later, she would have paid $210 more. how many days before her departure did she purchase her ticket?

a. 6 days
b.7 days
c.13 days
d.14 days
e.29 days

days prior to departure percentage discount

0-6 days 0%
7-13 days 10 %
14-19 days 25%
30 days or more 40 %

now a day letter he would have paid 1050+210=1260 so he has got discount of 210
discount % 210/11260*100=16.66 days
so he can be bought ticket 14 days ago

Interesting question!

Let us assume that the ticket is worth $100, then the ticket can be had for $100, $90, $75, $60 depending on the discount slab. Now we know that actual cost was 1,050 and discount was 210, thus the ratio of discount to ticket price should mimic the $100 scenario. Checking

10/90 not equal to 210/1050
15/75 = 210/1050, thus the ticket was bought for $75 or a 25% discount. Thus the 14th day, had it been bought on the 13th day one would have paid 1/5th more i.e. 210 more.

Thanks

the range is 14-19 days
so if you cut ticket between 14 to 19 days you ill get that discount
and in option its 14 days
so if you cut 14 days or 17 days before you will get the same discount
