How does Ad Com view American minorities vs Internationals?

Hello,

My question is how do admissions committees for the top schools view minorities who are US citizens in relationship with international applicants of the same ethnicity? If, for instance, you are an Indian (South Asian) American, will you be viewed in the same pool of international applicants of Indian descent, or will be viewed as different because you were born in the US?

Any info is appreciated.

Admissions committees seek diversity not only in terms of ethnic groups but also in regards to experience. Chances are, your experiences as a US citizen are different from those of someone who grew up and spent much of their adult life in another country. So the short answer is that as long as you are unique then you can differentiate yourself from the rest of the applicant pool.
