B. Use of "thinking" and use of "and" implies as if American literatures had 2 properties, while original sentence meant American literature was recorded by ...

C. Use of "had" and also the use of "and"
D. Use of "which"
E. same as "D"

Other then that, the easiest way will be the use of "who"
We need "who" to identify the group of scholars as its not all the scholars. This easily eliminates B, D, and E.
Between A and C it was easier pick

And in case of D & E, the subject is "Native American literatures". So, if we eliminate the "which clause", the sentence will be like this:-

Native American literatures now understand............

So, its not literatures but its scholars who now understand.

So, one can easily eliminate D & E.

IMO A.

D & E - Eliminated because of improper Subject.

Between A and C. I eliminated C because it is wordy.

@amitabhprasad,
Can you explain in detail about the ans choice C?

Regards,
Karthi
