If 15 people contributed a total of $20.00 toward a gift and each of them contributed at least $1.00, then the maximum possible amount any one person could have contributed is

(A) $1.00
(B) $1.25
(C) $5.00
(D) $6.00
(E) $20.00

To get the maximum number one person can contribute, the remaining 14 must each contribute the minimum possible amount ($1). That means $14 in total are contributed by 14 people. Therefore, the maximum the remaining person can contribute is $20-$14=$6 -> D
