Resume Format

Hi everyone!

I'm currently working on my resume and was wondering whether I could use the same format for all applications.
Or do B-schools have preferred format? I could not find specific information about this.

I'm applying to programs both in the US and in Europe; should I adopt different approaches when writing my resume for the two regions?

Some business schools require a specific format and/or specify length , however most do not. Generally, certainly if you have 3-4 years' experience or less, you will be expected to keep your resume to one page. Richard Montauk's book, How to Get Into the Top MBA Programs has an excellent resume example and you can find many workable templates online. A generic format will usually be acceptable. As long as you have checked carefully for specific requirements by school you should be safe using any standard format.

Content, of course, is more important than format. Be sure to use active verbs, avoid cliches, quote specifics (numbers where possible) and focus on the most managerial of your accomplishments. Avoid generalities such as "was responsible for" or weak phrases such as "participated in" and focus on concrete achievements (e.g. "built sales 35% in a market that was growing at 15%" is much stronger than "widely recognized for excellence in selling".) And above all - find a friend or relative who is a grammar fanatic and be sure there are no spelling, grammar or punctuation errors.
