Let g(x) = max(5 - x, x + 2). The smallest possible value of g(x) is

(A)4.0
(B)4.5
(C)1.5
(D)2.0
(E)None of the above

The OA [spoiler]is E.(smallest value =3.5) [/spoiler]

The smallest possible value in this case will be when 5-x =2+x
7=2x
x= 7/2=3.5

When u draw the straight line on a paper, u will find Smallest possible value of g(x) is given by 5-x=x+2
--> 2x = 7 --> x = 3.5
