Which one is right?

Hello, Everybody) I`m preparing fo GMAT. I`m taking it on 22 of April.
Time to time I got some defficulties with SC. I would be really thankful if you could help me to reasone the right answer) Thanks in advance)))

The first one:

Bihar is India`s poorest state, with an annual per capita income of $ 111, lower than in most impoverished countries of the world.

A) lower than in
B) lower than that of
C) and lower than that of
D) which is lower than in
E) which is lower than it is

The right answer is B I guess it deals with some specific GMAT preferances.

First we know that we are comparing imcome of Bihar with other countries because if we remove the phrase that is modifying Bihar than none of the choices will make sense.

a. lower than in is not the correct use.

b.you need that of to compare with other coutries's income.

c. and is not needed

d. again 'in' problem

e. this is wordy.

I will prefer B.

Clearly "Right Comparisons" and "Modifier" issue here
income of $111-->Modified by lower than
that (means, annual per capital income)in sets right comparison issue

Ok thank you very much) I were choosing between B and E, now i know that "which is..." wordy when there is shorter analogue.

I got a few more questions)

Another one thing to crack)

The speculative fever of the Roaring Twenties infected rich and poor alike; vast quantities of people were dangerously overextended, credit was absurdly easy to obtain, and most brokerage houses required only ten percent cash for stocks bought on "margin".

A) rich and poor alike; vast quantities of people were dangerously overextended
B) both rich and poor alike; large amounts of people dangerously overextended themselves
C) rich and poor alike; great numbers of people were dangerously overextended

The right answer is C

I`ve chosen E. Don`t have even a clue(

Quantities and amounts cannot refer to people. Therefore, C is the only option - numbers of people.
