The invention of the telephone and the rise of the internet have indeed prevented us from appreciating the physical distance between us. This is more true today than ever due to the prevalence of Social networking applications, the invention of video messaging, and the wide spread of cell phone use. There is no longer any communication or social distance between people today, but only physical distance.
The social networking application, one of which is Facebook, not only allows us to check the current status of our loved ones, but also allows us to communicate with them by, writing on their message boards, or senting them messages. People no longer need to write letters that take forever to be received. Communication is instantaneous and that has definitely prevented us from appreciating the distance between us.
The invention of video messaging has really taken the glocal communication to a new level. People no longer need to travel across the world to see friends anymore but to sign on a computer equipped with a camera. This allows them to converse face to face so to speak; they will be able to see their love ones, their emotions, and their excitements via the web camera. This has impeded people from having to travel across the world to see others.
The wide spread use of cell phones also has served to prevent us from appreciating the distance between us. Nowadays, everyone has a cell phone from age as young as 8 years old to 80 years old. Parents no longer need to worry when their children go out because they know that cell phones allow them to have immediate communication. Whomever we need to talk to or see, all we have to do is make a phone call, making communication easiest it has ever been!
