“No one can possibly achieve any real and lasting success or ‘get rich’ in business by conforming to conventional practices or ways of
thinking.”
Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion stated above. Support your views with reasons and/or examples from your
own experience, observations, or reading.

The author has asserted that conventional practices and thinking are not enough for long lasting success. I strongly agree with author's opinion because innovation or out of box thinking is required to achieve long term success.

First, innovation or our of box thinking is key to success of organization. Organization try to innovate itself to stay ahead of its competitor. It helps organization to take advantage of new market and remains profitable. For example, Apple Inc introduced first touch screen based iPhone (phone) in US market in June 2007. Touch screen technology was so innovative that Apple sold more than 1 million in two years. In addition, Apple has introduced innovative products such as iPod, Macintosh OS and iPohone in last decade in various markets. This helps the company to improve its image in customers.

Second, organization that promotes innovation creates healthy pool of talent in organization. It helps to empower the workers and motivates them to think creatively. For example, search engine giant Google allows its employees to spend 20% of work hours on their own idea. By implementing this strategy, Google has able to bring various innovative products in market such as Google Toolbar, GMail etc. These innovative products has helped company to achieve its long term goal of innovation. In addition, these innovative products have incresed profit for company in last decade.

Third, on other hand, people who support traditional way might argue that conventional practices have shown proven results over the years. So why do companies need to move away from traditional practices. However, supporter of traditional practices are missing the point that if companies did not change their thinking, then they will no more in competion and loose the market share. Thus, it will result in loss to company. For example, companies, like GM, Chrysler and Ford, have failed to innovate in auto market and now begging money from goverment. While Toyoto and Honda have started production of hybrid and electric cars to meet new challanges of environment, they are successful because of their innovation.

In Conclusion, conventional practices can not achieve long lasting success for organization. People who argue that conventional practices and thinking are key to succes should learn from mistakes of GM, Ford and Chrysler. Undoubtdely, no one can achive success with conventional practices.
