Not only....but also

Which one is more preferable?

A) Plant cell walls not only function to maintain cell shape, which provides structural and mechanical support for the cell and the plant, but they also function to prevent expansion when water enters the cell.

B) Plant cell walls not only function to maintain cell shape, which provides structural and mechanical support for the cell and the plant, but also function to prevent expansion when water enters the cell.

Would both be considered correct? Or Would (A) be considered "wordy" enough to be incorrect?

Thanks!
