From (1)
x < -1: -x-1 = 2-2x => x = 3
-1 < x < 1: x+1 = 2-2x => x=1/3
1 < x: x+1 = 2x-2 => x=3
x is either 1/3 or 3
From (2)
|x-3| != 0 => x is not 3

what does it mean by " |x=3| not equal 0."?
