"The best way to give advice to other people is to find out what they want and then advise them how to attain it."

Response

Advisory role always being challenging and the best way to give advice is quite interesting and controversial. On one hand it is always desirable and good to give advice when someone needed it on the immediate basis; time should not be wasted in identifying what exactly is required. However on the other hand until or unless we are not sure what exactly is required it's really difficult to put forward thoughts in the name of advice. Here I will go with author that 'the best way to give advice to other people is to find out what they want and then advise them how to attain'.

The primary reason of this is that without understanding second party need, one can't define the road map to achieve this. It's like that NASA hire external consultant to define it's step by step growth plan for next 5 years without providing the background what exactly NASA wants to be in next 5 years. It's apparently how rough and purposeless that plan would be. Moreover NASA would end up somewhere else in next 5 years if proposed plan is followed up. On the other hand if same external consultant backed up with NASA mission for next 5 years, proposed plan would come up with proper shape.
Secondary without proper background on need, an advice might lead the situation towards the worse. For example recent oil leak out in gulf of Mexico, we are hearing a lot of inferior advices from some local resources like stop that line and launch new one, be calm and take your full time in doing the required stuff, what was the need to put across lines in ocean and so on. All these are quite immature as is the result of lack end to end knowledge, end goal and dependencies. None of them can put forward for execution and if so may lead to more drastic outcomes comparatively today.
Third kibitzing may not be welcomed and kibitzer may face embarrassment. For an example several other countries keep on kibitzing on India and Pakistan those are equally unwelcome by both countries, primary reason behind this is they don't understand what exactly India and Pakistan wants in order to resolve the issues those are hosting since 1947.
Fourth these types of advices may end up with your one Goal and can spoil the other one. For an example A cricket coach may advice to his/her team to do more work out let's say 6 hrs a day without understanding their stamina and need , hence it may help in winning couple of cricket matches; however internally its weaken team in long term. Players would be retried in early age as they were asked to do more than their stamina and respective county may start up loosing experienced players a long before planned.

I believe opposite should be argued by giving the fact that most of the advices are required in emergency and advisors may not have that much of time to understand the exact need and are expected to revert without losing anytime. However this overlooks the fundamental meaning of Advice, a advice is not an advice any more if it can't solve problem or help in attaining what is exactly required.

I have argued that best way to give advice to other people is to find out what they want and then advise them how to attain it. This view will become increasingly in coming century given the fact a real advice is a advice that helps people in achieving what the want in all respect and that can't come without having end to end knowledge on need. Many of the issues can never be resolved to be everybody's satisfaction, but in long run promoting advice as "The best way to give advice to other people is to find out what they want and then advise them how to attain it." Will lead to betterment of all involved. Finally a doable ,workable and effective advice can only result in from this, resulting the best way to give advice to other people is to find out what they need and then advise them how to attain it for everybody.
