Request for Profile Evaluation

by purvi.gupta.g » Tue Dec 07, 2010 3:58 am
Hi

Would appreciate a profile evaluation.

I am applying for M.Sc Finance and Finance and Accounting courses in UK.
I am applying to-
LSE- Msc Finance and Accounting and M.Sc Finance
Cambridge- M.Phil Finance
Warwick- M.sc Finance
Durham- M.Sc Finance and M.Sc Finance and Accounting
Apart from these, I am also applying to Manchester, Leeds, Lancaster, Strathclyde and Exeter.
But I want to pursue finance from LSE, Cambridge, Warwick or Durham. These are my priorities.

Following are my details

Gmat- 650 (Q48,V-31) (Retaking in January)

Graduation- Bachelor in Commerce from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi University
67.9%

Class XIIth- 94%
Class Xth- 88.8%

Internship with Castrol India Ltd- Finance Department (1 month)

Cleared the Equity Derivatives Exam conducted by National Stock Exchange of India with a distinction (79%).
Currently enrolled for Equity Research Exam.

Was associated with Entretia 2008-2010 (The Entrepreneurship Cell at LSR college) and laid its foundation stone.
Won various intercollege competitions in arts and painting.
Worked with Shanti Sahyog (An NGO) in Delhi.
Was member of school student council for two consecutive years.
Also, member of the school Choir.

I plan to have a career in Corporate Finance and wish to come back to India and assisst the Government of India through consultancy or advisory services.
I have prepared my Statement of Purpose also, if required I will attach it.

Also advise, if January is too late to apply to LSE and Cambridge.
And do I really need to retake GMAT before applying as the score is less for LSE and Cambridge, or they make conditional offers on the basis of GMAT scores?
If there are any other schools in the same league, please advise which ones should I apply to.
As I have to come back to India, the recognition and standing the schools have in India is a major consideration for me.

Highly appreciate your time.
Thanks a lot.
Purvi
:) :)

Hi

Not that I am an expert but your GMAT score seems fine to me (esp for LSE).
I think good essays and recommendations should do the trick:)
Good Luck!

Btw - LSR, WOW!

Hey Purvi..
Did you receive confirmation from Warwick? I will be submitting my application in coming week for Masters in Management. I am dead late. With GMAT 640 and profile nearly identical to yours. But with shit college :P
Any further guidance would be useful. I have heard great things about Cranfield and Henley.

Hey Charmi,

Its gud to hear from you. BTW I got my rejection already. Booooo! :(

They said that the ratio for finance was 90/2300+ . Thats like f****** competitive. They replied within 16 days itself. I wonder if they ever went thru my sop or lor!!!! I worked my ass out on them!!! I dnt knw wat their criteria is! They say that gmat is not a compulsion, but one of my frnz' frnd who got thru said they gv a hell lot of weightage to gmat score and work ex. But again, on the contrary the avg gmat they show on the site or somewhere i read is 610-630. You see the average age of those who have got thru is aronud 28 i guess. Dats a lot of work ex! But I say you shud at least give it a shot. Who knows things work out for you. My case may have been different. Who knows that your SOP and LOR impress them v well. Jst go for it. Gv it ur best shot.

Gudluc wd ur application! Jst nail it!
And yes, just apply now, feb will be superlate gal!!!!

P.S.- Even I am planning to apply again for Accounting and Finance. And I am so confused about other colleges! I jst dnt knw which ones are gud for finance apart from LSE and Warwick ( both of which are obvious choices). Other colleges which have gud ranking for finance lag behind in 20s-30s in overall university ranking. I have also applied to Durham, LSE, Lancaster, Exeter. I got calls from Leeds and Strathclyde already. Now I am damn confused. If LSE doesnt offer me a place, its goin 2 be a really difficult task 4 me to choose amongst the other colleges!

Thanks so sooo much for prompt reply. I was kind of looking for an inspiration. But I guess it didn't go well lol. I'm applying for Msc Management which compulsorily wants students with less than a year work experience. So that criteria is not bothering me. But o well, Msc in Management is most competitive course in Warwick's bucket. With compulsory GMAT and IELTS 0.5 higher than rest. I'm getting my SoP critiqued, feel lot more work needs to be done on it. I appeared for GMAT pretty late. 30th Dec :(

Gosh, its unbelievable. Anyone with profile such as yours can get a rejection. ARGH! I'm well scared. I'll be applying to Cass, Warwick, LSE, LBS (ELLE BEE ESS, the aspirational one!) and Manchester. How did it go with Manch? I finally know someone who is applying to colleges like mine. In Gujarat, you rarely find people making it to or even aspire making it to these universities. Thanks once again! :)
