Feedback needed regarding GMAT score

by dhar_subhasis » Thu Jul 08, 2010 12:27 pm
Dear Friends,

I wrote my GMAT exam today. It was my first attempt with moderate preparation.
My score is as follows:

Quant : Scaled score 47 ( 77 percentile)
Verbal : Scaled score 27 ( 42 percentile)
TOTAL : 610 (67 percentile)
Currently, I have 6 years work exp in IT with reputed companies of the globe.
i am interested for business schools in US ,UK and Australia and want to apply for 2011 academic year.

Could anyone please throw some light about the possibilities of getting into a good school with this score.

Hello,

With your IT background and a 610 GMAT score, you would not be a viable candidate for the most competitive programs. (People in IT are over-represented in the applicant pool and also tend to have higher scores, and you will be viewed as part of this group.)

However, you may well be a viable candidate for a "good" program if you do some research to identify schools where you would be well qualified and that also meet your needs. I suggest taking our free online minicourse on selecting schools, which walks through the process.

Of course you also can try to raise your GMAT score; deciding on whether to take this step would depend on how likely you think it is that you can achieve a meaningfully higher score (say, 650-650 or more) with a reasonable amount of effort.
