Essay
The author states that due to the improvement in the economic situation and due to last year's increased business the economic situation of the area will improve. At first look this arguement may seem convincing, but it is based on unsubstantiated premises and lacks solid evidence in favor of the conclusion.Furthermore, the author makes assumptions which are not explained in the passage.
Primarily, the premise of the arguement is not clearly explained by the author. It is stated that last summer saw a 500% increase in tourism and the it is assumed that there will be a greater number of tourists visiting the resort this year. The arguement does not explain the conditions which led to increased tourism, the increase may be due to better weather last year and it cannot be assumed that the weather will remain the same this year. The increase may also be due to a promotional offers offered by the resort last year for a limited period, it is not certain that such offer will be in place this year. Furthermore, the author implies that an improved economic condition will lead to further increase in tourism. Such assumption may not come true in a case where tourists already had enough expendable income last year to go to the resort and the people visiting the resort will be those who could already afford such trips last year.
Secondarily, the author states that such tourist boom will generate record revenues and will resolve the area's economic difficulties. By making such statements the author assumes that the area's economy is dependent on revenues from the resort and there are no economic problems faced by other businesses in the area or that other businesses in the area do not affect the economy significantly. There may be problems faced by the industries in the area which might be affecting the economy and the resort may be doing great in terms of economic stability.
Though the arguement is unconvincing, it cannot be said that it is completely illogical. By providing proper evidence such the research findings which show that the economy of the area is completely dependent on the resort's income. Another evience can be a survey results showing that due to improved economic conditions people from all over thet country will be spending more on vacations or will be going to the resort mentioned in greater numbers than last year.
In conclusion the author will need to make significant changes and largely restructure the argument to convince the readers. By including proper evidence and by clarifying the underlying assumptions this arguement can be made convincing but as it stands the arguemnent does not do enough to convinve its readers.
