OG11 Analysis of an Argument Page 767 #4

The following appeared in the editorial section of a corporate newsletter:

"The common notion that workers are generally apathetic about management issues is false, or at least outdated: a recently published survey indicates that 79 percent of the nearly 1,200 workers who responded to a survey questionnaires expressed a high level of interest in the topics of corporate restructuring and redesign of benefits programs."
==================

The argument that the notion, which stats that workers are generally apathetic about management issues is virtually false or outdated, does not take in count same serious matters regarding the survey the argument was based on.

The argument does not provide any information about the workers, the workers education or years of experience. An assumption that experienced and educated workers will not be apathetic and will show some interest about management issues will be a logical assumption. Moreover, the lasts are more likely to fill such survey questionnaires. At hard times or at new companies, in times of unclearness, workers are more likely to be involved at serious matters that are also being discussed by the management.

Since the survey leaves out those matters and many more like anonymity, the type of companies it was taken in and the type of questions, the argument based on that survey is not convincing and needs more support.--
