Hi, I am retaking the GMATs this month, I got a 5.5 on the writing section the first time I took the test and am pretty satisfied with that score, can I skip the the essay section or would that be looked down upon by admissions officers?

NO.
You can choose to enter nothing but that WILL be looked down upon by Administrators. All three sections of the test are Mandatory.

The GMAT is a test of 3 sections and it gives you undue advantage if you do not take the first section of 1 hour.
If you got 5.5, you can score that much again.
Vineesh,
Just telling you what I know and think. I am not the expert. :)
