"There is only one definition of success-to be able to spend your life in your own way."

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this definition of success? Support your position by using reasons and examples from your reading, your own experience, or your observation of others.

===================

Many people look at their life and try to "grade" their life by using different criterions like money, achievements, education or general criterions like the statement of this discussion, "to be able to spend your life in your own way". In this discussion I shell present arguments refuting the last.

Success, for my opinion, must be a measurable criterion. One must be able to answer the question in each time of ones life and since the question is changing during a life time, one can answer the question of success differently for each time. Many irreligious people who considered themselves successful changed there answer after they had reformed, Many criminals done so, after they understood the consequence of there actions.

Many parents refer to their children as the most important thing in their life. Although having very successful personal career and living their life in their own way, the parents will not consider themselves successful without the success of their children.

The way of life is not always drown by the person himself. During the holocaust, wars or crisis times many people did not spent their life in there own way, but many of them are considered as very successful by themselves and by others. Success can be achieved and measured in many ways and "living in your own way" is only one of the ways.
