by nuka » Fri May 27, 2011 12:31 am
hi

Can I use examples is AWA from my life or which occured in my country and therefore are not known to evaluator?
Or it would be better to use examples which are broadley known?

I always heard that its better to relate the topic by giving examples which somehow relevant to the evaluator as he can best acknowledge them, guess if the he ( evaluator ) doesn't even understand your example as whether it support of weaken the argument and give you a low score then what you gonna do?

So its always better to give examples that are known, evaluator can relate to it and broadly acknowledge them as well. top of that you get good score and thats what you want.
I am not an Expert, please feel free to suggest if there is an error.

Hi Nuka,

I think it's okay to use examples from your own life/country to support a point, as long as you take the time to explain in any important information that the reader may not know.

For example, I wouldn't write something like "Harsh penalties against littering do not work. Just look at my hometown of Villageton" since the reader has no idea about life in Villageton. However, if I take the time to explain the littering penalties and how they don't work in Villageton, then it's perfectly fine to mention it in an essay.

Cheers,
Brent
