In making complex decision , one should trust experience more than instinct . It is said there is no better teacher in life than life itself , so in my opinion experience is more valuable than instinct in making decisions for the below reasons.
When in a fix to make a complex decision , one can always draw upon past experience to find a similar situation . On comparing the present situation with the past , one can have better understanding of the intricate details of the present situation and can then make an informed decision . The advantage of reflecting on the past experience is that the database it not limited to oneself . You can use the past experience of any other person to make a decision in the present situation , whereas if you trust your instinct you cannot take help of others to make the decision.
The chances that a decision based on experience is successful are greater than the decision based on instinct. On reflecting on the past experience , you judge what worked and what didn't the last time .On comparing how different or similar is the present situation , one can make decisions as to what will work and what won't in the present situation . This comparison increases the chances of success a decision based on experience has than a decision that is based on pure instinct with no foundation to the base the decision on.
Another advantage is that even if the decision one makes is not a success than the knowledge one acquires has increased . In the future when faced with a similar situation , one can learn from the past mistakes and make a better decision this time .
While it is true that each situation is different from other and it is not necessary that what worked in one situation will work in another but basing your decision on pure instinct is not advisable .
