Prompt: "Primary and secondary education should focus on training students for the highly specialized jobs of the future, rather than on providing them with a broad range of non-specific skills and information."
Assignment: Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the opinion expressed above. Support your position with reasons and examples from your own experience, observations, or reading.

The issue that the author proposes is that the primary as well as secondary education nowadays focuses on a broad range of non-specific skills and information rather than practical knowledge which will help the future generations to equip themselves with on hand job training.I agree with the author's thought completely. The first thought that comes in our mind is that of scientists and scholars of nowadays compared to that of old generations , chefs and barbers and freelance jobs and finally the industrialists and business persons.

Firstly, in earlier days the education and grading system was not so vigorous and elaborate that would make a child sit for studying for endless hours.A student nowadays has to learn from childhood science, arts ,computers along with practical labs and experiments.He/she may not feel interested in a particular subject and thus will ignore all of them and will opt a profession not in any of the above fields. Then the mere investment in his studies goes wasted.Scientists like Albert Einstein or Newton who were school drop outs and they were able to discover new scientific facts which would not have been possible if they had to study the regular coursework of studies.

Secondly, the time line of curriculum is so stringent that a student does not get time to explore all of the facts, he has to merely mug up and gobble down all his acquired knowledge in examinations.A chef or barber for example would not find interest in any of science or art or commerce studies , and he has to study to get a well paid and respectable job, instead if he could invest himself in his field at a earlier stage his expertise would be enriched and he would be satisfied with his work.

Thirdly, the pool of industrialists and business men are not getting generated as expected from all strata of society , rather it is seen they are only blooming from a heritage of family members. The reason behind is that the curriculum lacks business and practical exposure as there are no special attention given to children earlier in the growing days of a student educational life , thus his thought process is not moulded in the culture that is expected to be.Example Dhirubai Ambani had attended school until fifth grade and learnt the art of business making out by his own willingness and he had his first company at the age of 21.

Thus with the given examples I conclude that primary and school education lack the specialized skills which are required for job requirements and hence they should concentrate on these areas, as they indulge more on broad range of non-specific knowledge and information which are not retained by most of the students in their education life.
