The following appeared in the advertising literature of Travelshack.com, an online travel magazine and vacation resort catalogue.
"Your vacation resort can ill afford not to publicize its offerings on travelshack.com. Our readership has more than doubled in the past year alone and it is dominated by savvy consumers with large disposable incomes. Witness the experience of Snowbert Ski Lodge. Since it began advertising itself on our website a year ago, it is regularly booked to capacity, and its annual profits have increased more than threefold from the previous year."
Explain how logically persuasive you find the argument. In discussing your viewpoint, analyze the argument's line of reasoning and its use of evidence. Also explain what, if anything would make the argument more valid and convincing or help you to better evaluate its conclusion.

In the given argument, the advertising literature of Travelshack.com is promoting its website by highlighting the 3 times increase in profits made by Snowbert Ski Lodge after advertising on their website and trying to highlight their "savy consumers". At a glance the argument sounds very appealing and persuasive, but a closer look exposes certain important criteria omitted by the author in concluding about the advantages of advertising in Travelshack.com.

Primarily the author highlights that by merely advertising in the website, the profit of Snowbert Ski Lodge has increased 3 times. The author has failed to mention about the kind of service provided at the Lodge. It could well be possible that the customer satisfaction was high and thus it attracts people to visit it again and again, and adding to its revenues .Maybe Snowbert Ski Lodge has undergone renovations. It is even possible the Lodge is located at a prime location and thus attracts more tourists. Therefore the credit of the Lodge's success cannot be completely given to its advertising on the website.

Further the author has not quantified the readership of the website. The above argument vaguely mentions that its readership has doubled over the one year. It could be possible as being a new website a year ago, it had a follow ship among a few hundreds and which could have doubled and reached a 4 digit figure. Thus the claim made in the advertisement cannot be completly justified .Also the mention of "savy consumers with large disposable income", have the website done any survey on the financial background of customers? There are no means to authenticiate their claim.

Also the author has not mentioned about the methodology adopted by the website to keep a track about the people who have visited a particular restaurant/lodge based on their recommendations. Does the website collect a feedback from its reader or request them to write reviews about the places they visited based on experience? Had the author provided such information, it would enhance their credibility.

On a concluding note, the author has failed to give "Snowbert Ski Lodge " its due credit in tripling its profit. Also there is no clear picture about their readership and methodology adopted to draw such a conclusion. As the argument stands, it is inadequate to judge the value gained by promoting one's business on Travelshack.com.
