Whether the desire of corporations to maximize profits creates conflict with the general welfare of the nation at large is a statement of argument which has been present ever since the Industrial Revolution. Many people believe that the human needs when exceed its limits give way to human greed and lead to immoral action from individual. However, I believe that the desire of corporations to maximize profits is in interest of the whole nation and hence must be supported.
The primary reason for my argument is that higher profitability for corporations means higher taxes and hence the funds in government treasuries. In other words, a company earning more and more contributes to the the nation by paying more and more taxes which ultimately leads to the development of the infrastructure of the nation and start of several social welfare schemes for the common public. A government require large money to run a country , a large part of that money comes through taxes paid by larger corporations.
Secondly, in order to maximize its profits, corporations may spend a huge amount on research and developmental facilities to generate better and innovative products . These products leads to a more developed and advanced society at large. For example ,a large profit earning organisation like IBM continuously spends on its R&D activities and hence develops better and better supercomputers which are used for advanced scientific functions serving for the nation.
Additionaly, an expanding organisation means larger employment opportunities to the individuals . To maximise its profits a company may require expansion of its business in different horizons providing employment to a large number of people in the process and hence, serving the society indirectly.
To sum, I believe that profiting organisations with desire to earn more and more profits helps in the development of the nation providing more and more opportunities to the individuals and generating large revenues for the government . Hence, i suppose that the government must act accordingly to promote the profit yearning companies as it leads to a general welfare of the nation.
