Hi friends,
Please rate following essay for analysis of issue section of GMAT.
Thanks
Analyze the following issue:
"It is difficult for people to achieve professional success without sacrificing important aspects of a fulfilling personal life."
Although the issue of what constitutes professional success is not as simple as deciding between black & white and some experts object to the statement that what really matters is sacrificing important aspects of fulfilling personal life, I agree with the statement because achieving success in professional life do require some sacrifices in the personal life of a person.
First, a person has to put some extra efforts with more time than his regular work time in a profession to get the best and outstanding results out of his work. For example, an engineer in a service sector organization needs to work extra hours sacrificing his personal interests such as sports to provide better solution to the customer in a short span of time. This action of the engineer attracts the manager's attention to his good work and appreciation from the customer side leading to a professional success.
Second, a person may have personal interests such as family, health, and personal business. But in professional organizations, good way to get success is to consider the work on priority and to consider it as personal interest. For example, an employee wishes to visit his family on the occasion of his anniversary. It might be possible that this employee has an important meeting with a very important client at the same day and at the same time. In this situation, if the employee will consider his family first then he is less likely to achieve success professionally as his managers can give this performance opportunity to someone else who may be his competitor.
Third, some jobs and professions demand continuous relocation which disturbs the balance between the personal and professional life of a person doing that job. For example, a senior manager in a multi-national professional organization needs to travel to various nations to attend numerous meetings with the clients. He may miss some very important occasions at his home such as his son's marriage ceremony.
On the other hand, some experts say that it is not necessary to put extra time sacrificing one's personal life to achieve professional success by giving example of persons who has achieved success by working in fix timings and have balanced personal & professional life. But, most of the managers usually do not promote their employees who didn't put some extra efforts in work and who didn't worked overtime to achieve maximum output. Another example in favor of my point is the scientist's work on a research project who devote most of his time on some crucial findings sacrificing his personal interests and aspects of fulfilling personal life.
In conclusion, the aspect of achieving professional success does need some personal sacrifices as one has to devote his time and to concentrate his mind in a direction to achieve a goal. Although some may argue that personal life would still be enjoyed fully without any sacrifice to achieve professional success, but it is not possible in most of the cases and eventually a personal has to devote extra time to get success in his profession.
