"The invention of the Internet has created more problems than it has solved. Most people would have a higher quality of life had the Internet never been invented."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The emergence of Internet since the early 1990's has fundamentally changed our world. From education to business, from medicine to space exploration, internet has affected every field and has changed the way operations held from its introduction. A simple click of mouse can provide us so much information and we can access it by sitting at home. There is no need to visit places as we have simulation tours that can be accessed using internet and simple sitting at home, one can easily find out places of interest or find out courses to study and fill in the forms online. Nowadays we also have online education in system which enables us to sit at home and study and give the exams online, while there is no need to go to the collage or university and apply or give exams. In other words, Internet has greatly eased our life by introducing several ways to study, work, enjoy, share or explore information. In the proceeding paragraphs, I will discuss how the invention of Internet has improved our lives and has solved more problems than it has ever created.
To begin with, the most remarkable change Internet has shown is the way we share and exchange information. Prior to the introduction of the Internet, there were very few ways in which we can share, exchange or send information and those ways were time consuming. For example, the only way to send pictures to your loved ones was by sending those via mail or courier and these services took more time to deliver and was not free. Business suffered too because information always took time to
reach the other end. All these problems were overcame with the emergence of the Internet. Speed and accuracy was one of the many merits that Internet offered. Traditional mailing systems were replaced with Emails and cloud computing gave rise to file sharing in a very effective, easy and rapid way. With emails, one can send information with just a mouses' click, which does not require much effort, and the information on the recipient's side is received almost instantaneously. Not only in business or office work are emails useful, but emails are also the most easiest way to stay in touch with your loved ones or your friends.
Besides email, cloud computing gave rise to multiple applications of Internet. For example file-sharing enables users to share pictures, audio-video files or simple information to multiple recipients at the same time and that too for free. Since computers were invented much before Internet, the one's fear of loosing his or her precious files or pieces of information always existed. This fear was successfully overcame when Internet was invented and subsequently cloud computing. With online backup, all your information can be stored in a remote computer or server and can be retrieved in case of a computer crash. This ensures data safety and eliminated, though not completely, the fear of loosing one's information. Another application of Internet that made our lives easier is the concept of online social-networking. Various social networking websites got very popular after Facebook was invented. Websites such as Facebook, Orkut, Tumblr made it possible to remain in touch with your friends, colleagues, business partners or your family members without having to personally meet them. As the technology progressed, various applications, such as Gtalk, Skype or Facetime, were also built which enabled us to call or video-chat with our loved ones and thus, further improving our live's social side.
Not just social networking or file sharing, online shopping also became very popular in the 21st century. Now buyers can simply browse through the Internet and shop any item that they want and can make the payment online too. Simply sitting at your home in front of your computer, you are shopping multiple items, paying for them in a couple of days, those items are shipped to your mailing address. What else do we need when we are getting all sorts of items simply by sitting at home and ordering online!
Technology has always enhanced our lived by giving us ample resources to improve our lives. All these inventions discussed above have improved our lives in some way or the other, but there are always pros and cons of a certain technology and Internet has its too. Because of the Internet, containment and software industry has greatly suffered because of ill-legal copying of the contents and making them available to the users all over the world. Software industries such as Microsoft have lost millions of dollars on a large scale because of pirated softwares being available to the users. Another major drawback is the introduction of pornography on the Internet which further gave rise to sexual abuse or bad habits being developed in minors. There cannot be a constant check on the Internet that can ensure that such content is viewed only by the adults. To conclude, the Internet has greatly improved our lives and has made us more attentive, social and receptive to business and society.
