The European Economic Community exported just under $400 billion in goods in 1988, sixty percent more than the United States did and nearly twice as much as Japan's exports.

IMO C.

The European community..exported, 60% more than the US exported exported..twice as much as the Japanese

Hey Sungoal, the answer to this question is C. But, can you be bit more specific with your question. Which part is troubling you ?

As far as comparison goes.. Correct comparison is made between United states/Japan and European Economic community

I am having confusion between option C and D. Why option D is wrong?

We should look for parallelism.

Here EEC exported - past tense
US did - past tense
Japan's exports - Possessive Noun

choice C is the only one of these which uses the correct tenses:
exported, exported, did

Choice D also uses Possesive Noun
