As the honeybee’s stinger is heavily barbed, staying where it is inserted, this results in the act of stinging causing the bee to sustain a fatal injury.

B. As the heavily barbed stinger of the honeybee stays where it is inserted, with the result that the act of stinging causes

A. As the honeybee’s stinger is heavily barbed, staying where it is inserted, this results in the act of stinging causing- This is referring to what?

B. As the heavily barbed stinger of the honeybee stays where it is inserted, with the result that the act of stinging causes - No main clause

C. honeybee’s stinger, heavily barbed and staying where it is inserted, results in the fact that the act of stinging causes - Change in meaning

D. the heavily barbed stinger of the honeybee stays where it is inserted, and results in the act of stinging causing - Conveys stringer resultsts in stinging

E. the honeybee’s stinger is heavily barbed and stays where it is inserted, with the result that the act of stinging causes. IMO this should be correct.

I also go for D. While many others support C.

I cannot tell that C change the meaning, while I think E is not as good as D.

yangliu0401, What's the OA??

I considered option D wrong because it changes the meaning.

My understanding is that option D has a common subject Bee's stringer and two predicates joined by coordinating conjunction'and'
The sentence says that

The heavily barbed stinger of the honeybee stays where it is inserted, and (The heavily barbed stinger) results in the act of stinging causing.....

The honey bee's stinger doesn't result in act of stinging?

I may be wrong but then I want to know my mistake....
