Did not score well on GMAT

by sk_22 » Mon Aug 09, 2010 5:36 pm
Hi,

I took GMAT few days ago and did not do well. I scored 610 - 75 percentile in Math and 47 percentile in Verbal.
I was wondering if I can get admit to any decent college with such a low score. If I decide to retake the test, then I don't know how to improve my verbal for the test. Please guide me.

thanks in advance.

Hi SK,

Well, I made a 620 and was admitted (not even waitlisted) to HBS and waitlisted at Stanford. That's not to say that everyone with a low score has a decent chance, but I did want to share my story to give you a ray of hope.

I would recommend retaking the test if you have enough time to study very well and practice tests show significant improvement (70 points or more). If you find that you just can't break the 610 barrier, go ahead and aim for the schools you want to go to. Just make sure your essays are phenomenal and really show your capacity as a leader, student, and member of the community.

Good luck!
