GMAT Prep Software for MAC?

by rosh1826 » Thu Jan 21, 2010 10:46 am
Hey everyone,

I'm new.

I'm just beginning my understanding of the GMAT and this entire process of taking on an MBA.

I don't have a strong background in any of these areas but I am determined to sharpen that part of my mind.

I did my undergraduate degree in Music and now I'm called to get an MBA. I need support and encouragement.

So thanks for being here.

I'm following the steps laid out on the BTG.

I downloaded the flash cards.

Now, I need to find a prep software but I have a MAC.

Any leads?

I don't think its compatible with Macs. If you don't have access to a comp with windows, I would say just go through the Manhattan GMAT Cats. My GMAT prep score was in line with my MGMAT scores, and the GMAT prep tests do not have explanations. I would say just use the Manhattan GMAT Cats and make sure you do all of the problems in the official guide and you will be good.

Welcome to the community! We look forward to helping you succeed on your GMAT and MBA admissions.

So I have some bad news for you--currently there is no GMATPrep software for the Mac. I've spoken with GMAC about this, and they have indicated that a Mac version is coming, but they didn't give a date.

You have two options for using this software:

1. Get a PC and run the software from there (have any friends that can lend you an old laptop?)
2. Get VMWare Fusion (or some virtualization software), load Windows, run it from there--that's what I would do

Kind of a hassle I know but these tests are worth it. Good luck!

Also... why not tell a friend that you need to borrow their computer for 4 hours on a Saturday or something? That's what I'm planning on doing, since I have a Mac as all...

Hi
I noticed that the posts are from last year so couldn't help wonder about an update...
Has there been any further development on getting the GMAT prep software for a MAC?
Would really appreciate help with this...
Thanks

Also, rosh1826, how did it go?

Haven't heard any updates from GMAC about a Mac version yet. Last time I checked, it was 'under development.'

Hello,

I've been searching for a solution and came across this application (Winebottler, https://darwine-winebottler.en.softonic.com/mac) for OSX that will run Windows software. It's been suggested on Lifehacker.com. Hopefully this tip will help out anyone studying for the GMATs who only has access to a Mac.

Hi rosh1826,

Juggling between work and studies is tough so you need to define a significant time for your GMAT
preparation. Sometimes taking few days off work for preparing for the GMAT can help a person
tremendously. If you have time this may not be a bad idea. Take practise GMAT tests to see how
you are doing. If you cannot do that don't worry. What might work instead is to set aside 1-2 hours
at night on weekdays and major part of your weekend to study and prepare for GMAT- in this
case we will suggest a good 2-3 months preparation. However we recommend you to keep taking
practise tests to gauge your performance. It will help you in identifying your weak areas and you
can focus on them accordingly. You might be able to study more than the given hours and that
would take you less than 2-3 months. It all depends on your potential really.

There are various ways you can use to practise for your GMAT. You might need to change your
practise style and try this combination to provide you flexibility and different styles to practise so
it doesn't get monotonous.

It could be combination of-

1-Books- Books like- The Official Guide for GMAT Review, The Official Guide for GMAT Verbal
Review, The Official Guide for GMAT Quantitative Review etc could be used.

2-Online Study Guide: Websites like Knewton, Grockit etc provide you with practise questions
online.

3-Smart phone applications- Kaplan, Veritas etc offer applications to prepare for GMAT on your
smart phones
