Gmat Exam in a week - what to do?

by ankit_01 » Mon Sep 14, 2009 12:53 pm
Hello,

I am giving Gmat exam in a week's time. I have studied/practiced for it on and off from last 3 weeks.

I decided to take the Gmat Prep test yesterday and scored 580 (the breakdown being 45 in Quant and 25 in Verbal). But my biggest weakness is Sentence Correction (7 out of 14 correct). Everything else was ok. I don't know any concepts of SC, I just select the answer which seems/sounds good to me.

I don't need a great score (but atleast 620), and I really want to get done with the exam instead of rescheduling it. So my question is should i buy a sentence correction book (I have read in the forum that MGMAT's SC book is very good)? But with the time remaining should i focus on just SC?

Till now I have just practiced from OG 12, I havn't read anything yet.

Please let me know, thanks!

Ankit

different people might expect different results, so it's hard to say. i studied the MGMAT SC for a little under a week and it boosted my verbal score pretty significantly. at this point if you can still reschedule it, i would push it back at least a week or two. otherwise, i'd recommend you buy the MGMAT SC book and get it shipped next day or 2nd day. in the meantime, take the free MGMAT full length test and focus particularly on the explanations for the verbal section on the ones you get wrong.

Hey,
Really Appreciate your suggestion. I havn't registered for the exam yet, but its either going to be next tuesday (22nd) or Saturday (26th).

And I am going to order the MGMAT SC book soon! Also I will take the MGMAT full length test.

I will post here again if I need some more help.

Thank You,
Ankit

MGMAT practice

by ankit_01 » Tue Sep 15, 2009 7:57 am
Hey, I did give MGMAT Practice test, the results were -

Math - 42 (I got 17 wrong which is alot, maybe because I tried without any formula revision)

Verbal - 32 (I got 18 wrong and I don't know how i still go 32.

Overall I am happy with the verbal score, and if I do good in Math I can get 620+ which is enough for the program I am applying too.

But my main concern is - Every SC I see I am not sure, thus my verbal score keeps on fluctuating.

Overall - 610

# of questions wrong

SC - 10 out of 15
RC 6 out of 12 (All questions in one entire passage i got wrong)
CR - 2 out of 14 (Its my strong point, not worried much about it).

Math - I got less but I am not worried much (I know my range)

In Verbal

RC - I know I can't improve much, but SC thats 33%. And every sentence I see, I am not sure.

Any other quick way to improve (like MGMAT or BeattheGmat flashcards) SC instead of the entire MGMAT SC book.

Thanks,
Ankit
